Prom Dating
Prom Gifts
Flowers are the most traditional gift for prom today. They are no longer only given by the male anymore, both young men and young women are giving the gift of flowers. But there is an etiquette you may want to brush up on before you go ahead and purchase flowers. Here are a few tips to help ensure you give the right flower, the right way.
How far in advance should I order them?
Prom and Wedding season run hand in hand, and also around Mother’s Day. So if you are looking for specific populars such as sweetheart roses, white roses, or orchids, they will be in high demand. Ordering at least 2 wks in advance will ensure your florist has enough time to order the right amounts to see that you get exactly what you want.
Should my date’s boutonniere match my corsage?
This is a trend, but it is not a necessity. If he has a favorite flower that does not match, certainly get him his favorite. It will make a much bigger statement.
Is there a trend in flowers today? What would be considered “hot” for my date?
The two most popular styles are wrist corsages, and small hand held nosegays. The most popular flowers for these are mini roses (also called sweetheart roses), orchids, alstroemeria lilies, or other small flowers like cornflowers and freesia.
Is it tacky to tell my date what kind of flower I want?
If you have your heart set on something, tell your date ahead of time. The likelihood is that they will be relieved t have one less thing to think about and have to decide on. Show him a few boutonniere pictures as well and see what he likes.
My budget is limited. Are there less expensive flowers that won’t make me look cheap?
Talk to your florist about what you want specifically, and ask them for ideas. If they know your exact budget, they will show you your options right on site.
How do I dry my corsage?
This will depend on the flower, as there are a number of drying methods. Some florists will freeze dry it for you, but this may get expensive. Others use silica pellets and powders or gel. Again, ask your florist for some ideas.
