You can get married onboard the ship when it is at port or at sea.  A few cruise lines will offer weddings at sea by the ship’s captain, but ensure that this is an option available to you before you make plans.  Wedding cruise packages provide the services of your officiante, flowers for the bride and groom, recorded music, a wedding cake, and a souvenir certificate.  Additional decorations, live music, a photographer, videographer, and tuxedo rentals may also be available.   Your wedding reception will be just as imaginative as one that would be on land.  You can choose from intimate hors d’oeuvres to an eight course meal.  Your options will depend on your budget, the number of guests, and what the cruise offers.

If you choose the reverse option, and opt to be married at your destination, be sure to find out ahead of time what documents you will need to have to apply for your marriage license.  Your wedding coordinator will have this information, but if not, get in touch with the local tourist board.  The kind of documents that you will need are birth certificates, photo ID’s, passports, divorce papers or death certificates, and tourist cards.  Whatever paperwork you will need, your witnesses will need as well, it is your responsibility to make sure you and your guests are fully covered legally.
