Wedding Bartenders, Bartender Services For Weddings
Planning and personalizing today’s weddings are more difficult than ever. When planning your wedding, it is the little details that make the day so memorable. When it comes to choosing your bartender, there are a few things you should know before you go ahead and book the cheapest guy. An experienced bartender can be a wedding planning asset in more ways than one. Go with a pro and know that your thirsty guests will be in good hands. Your guests will expect to be served alcohol, and even the novice drinkers will know the difference between a good bartender and a poor one. If you have a great server, you may never hear about it. But if your drink service is poor, trust me, you will hear ALL about it.
Step One – Use Word of Mouth to Make a Short List
Get recommendations from friends, your caterer, family, or party planners. These are the people that have already hired someone, or been to a great wedding where there was excellent service. Go by experiences people have had, or like with party planners, experience with good business. Word of mouth is going to be your best asset here. Do not hire anyone unless you have heard a good testimonial about them. Ask everyone you know, and make a short list of who you want at your wedding.
Step Two – Start Interviewing
Ask your short listees if they have their own bar kit. A true professional will travel with their own wine opener, pour spouts, shakers, strainers, spoons, towels, and knives for garnishes. You or your hotel/venue will be expected to provide a blender, beverages, glasses, and ice. You can weed the listees out this way. If they don’t have their own kit, cross them off.
Step Three – Test them
Test their expertise. A good bartender will know a drink recipe by heart, any recipe. The first guy that says, “What’s in that again?” gets crossed off. Ask them how many years of experience they’ve had and what kind of experience it has been.
Step Four – Quiz Them
Quiz them on how they set up their bars, and how they cope with nonstop drink demands and empty glasses. They should be in charge of their workspace, garbage cans, and their supply of both drinks and glassware.
See what questions they ask YOU. They should ask you about your guests, their ages, and what kinds of tastes they will have. They should know what drinks different groups will favor. An experienced bartender will be able to help you calculate how much alcohol you will need, and what kind.
